I (Luke) have just started helping out at a cool company that produces pottery, clay lamps, and custom wood and steel furniture.  The company is owned by a new friend of mine, Fidel.  He is an Ethio-Kenyan chap about my age who was schooled in England.  His hobbies include playing polo twice a week and modfying his classic Range Rover 4×4’s for safari.

Things are going well so far, however some of the machinery is a bit outmoded and a little dangerous.  I am the only ferengi (foreigner) and communicating with the other employees can sometimes be a little tricky, but I am having a good time.

Great posts, you guys! I tuned out for a while but just got caught up on your adventures. It’s all inspiring me to get going on our blog again. Love, Sarah

Thanks for the recent updates! Things are good in Minneapolis… beautiful hot summertime weather, with occasional rainshowers. I went to Asheville, NC last weekend for Sharon and Matt’s wedding, which was beautiful. There were quite a few of my other B’more folks there too.
    Thinking of you!

I’d love to hear more about your experiences with the lamp-and-furniture company. How is it working there? How does it differ from the Maryland experience? Maybe a few pictures of the people? Keep up the great posts!

    Hi Guys-

Luke , I’m so glad you found something and hope that it turns out to be interesting–careful of those arcaic tools! Maybe you’ll come away having learned more Amharic and having taught them some new skills!
I love the new pictures on the blog–I even like the ones of me, which is unheard of!
I miss you two and am having a hard time re-entering work!

Sounds like a good outlet for your creativity, Luke. How’s Katie doing? I hope she’s not burning out too much. Katie, send us an entry! Love you both, Jillmom
